Recommendations for determining uranium isotopic composition by MGAU
نویسندگان
چکیده
The study deals with testing of versions 4.0 and 4.2 of the Multi-Group Analysis for Uranium (MGAU) software. MGAU is used for determining uranium isotopic composition by means of gamma spectrometry. The aim of the study was to determine the optimal measurement conditions needed to get the MGAU results as accurate as possible. The optimal number of total counts and the optimal count rate were determined. The study also shows how the accuracy of MGAU depends on the 235 U-enrichment for various total numbers of counts. The testing procedure is based on using simulated spectra generated from real spectra of certified reference materials and well characterized fuel pellets. The simulated spectra are generated by randomly sampling data from real ones by Cambio software. This approach allows producing a large number of spectra having different number of total counts to obtain statistically relevant data. More than 7000 spectra have been used in the study. The results of this work help to appropriately set up a gamma-spectrometric measurement of the uranium isotopic composition.

Basic characterization of highly enriched uranium by gamma spectrometry
Gamma-spectrometric methods suitable for the characterization of highly enriched uranium samples encountered in illicit trafficking of nuclear materials are presented. In particular, procedures for determining the U, U, U, U and U contents and the age of highly enriched uranium are described. Consequently, the total uranium content and isotopic composition can be calculated. For determining the...

متن کاملDetermination of uranium isotopes (234U, 238U) and natural uranium (U-nat) in water samples by alpha spectrometry
Background: Due to the potential public health effects of releases of uranium to the environment, isotopic determination and measurement of this radionuclide in environmental samples is very important. Achieving this goal, monitoring programs for this radionuclide seems necessary to be applied in many countries. Materials and Methods: The uranium was separated from the water samples using anion...

Study of lamproites from Leucite Hills, Wyoming, indicates that the isotopic compositions of some specimens have been modified due to the alteration and/or the presence of secondary carbonate impurities within the whole rocks. Leachate test shows that while phlogopite lamproites are not affected by secondary processes, the transitional madupitic lamproites from Middle Table Mountain and on...
متن کاملAssessment of Uranium Exposure from Total Activity and U:u Activity Ratios in Urine
Radiation workers at Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) are monitored for uranium exposure by routine bioassay sampling (primarily urine sampling). However, the interpretation of uranium in urine and faecal results in terms of occupational intakes is difficult because of the presence of uranium due to intakes from environmental (dietary) sources. For uranium in urine data obtained using current...
